The City of Des Plaines has announced plans for a weekly summer event featuring live entertainment and activities in its downtown Metropolitan Square.
Beginning June 24th, Friday evenings in Des Plaines will feature a special line-up of performances at the location - entertainment that can be seen and heard from the outdoor seating areas of Tap House Grill, Pot Belly’s, Giordano’s, Forever Yogurt and Panera Bread. The Friday events will take place from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. unless inclement weather deems otherwise.
The new 10-week summer series, called “Friday Nights Live!” is sure to attract residents who enjoy family-friendly entertainment just steps from home. With a portion of the square closed to thru traffic, the venue will accommodate tables, umbrellas, chairs, and a performance stage. A local floor covering business will provide carpet squares for kids to sit on during the events and the entertainment line-up will be different each week: potentially including live jazz, blues, dueling pianos, cooking demonstrations, comedians, improvisational comedy sketches, theatrical performances, storytelling, craft projects for kids, and pop-up art exhibits. The City, in partnership with the Des Plaines Public Library and the Des Plaines Arts Council, is booking the entertainment.
The City understands the value of community events and believes that live performances and activities in this unique location will appeal to local residents and the customers that frequent any of our great Metropolitan Square restaurants 'Friday Nights Live!’ will be the ‘go to’ place for families and friends, helping build a stronger sense of community while promoting local businesses.”
